YCIS Qingdao has been accredited by more international agencies than any other international school in Qingdao.
There are many reasons why a school chooses international accreditation but the most important ones for YCIS Qingdao are those which help the school provide a better international education for our students. We achieved this by engaging our whole school community in the school improvement process; through the CIS/NEASC/NCCT community survey and continuing through our Self-Study in which all constituents were represented and all groups (students, faculty, support staff, Board members, leaders, and parents) were involved. School improvement is a process involving the whole community, and achieving accreditation demonstrates the commitment of a school to this on-going development and improvement.
Accreditation is hard-earned, through a searching self-examination of all aspects of school life, a gathering of diverse sources of evidence to support self-evaluation, and an evaluation against globally-agreed and rigorous standards. Then, this self-evaluation is considered and appraised by a team of evaluators, drawn from internationally accredited schools throughout Asia and beyond.
Accreditation is an ongoing process and ensures that as a school we will continue to engage in school improvement. The overall aim of accreditation is to provide our children with a world class education. It ensures learning is at the centre of the school’s agenda and planning, and for the older students, providing recognition of the quality of their education to universities worldwide.
YCIS Qingdao has received accreditation or authorisation from the following six agencies.
CIS – The Council of International Schools
The Council of International Schools is the premier organisation in international education for the accreditation of schools and best practice development. CIS is a not-for-profit organisation of a truly worldwide international educational community comprising over 650 member schools and 450 colleges/universities.
IB – International Baccalaureate
YCIS Qingdao is accredited as an International Baccalaureate World School (IB). This enables YCIS Qingdao to offer the full IB Diploma Programme to our students in Years 12 and 13. The IBDP aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
CIE - Cambridge International Examinations
YCIS Qingdao is authorised as a Cambridge International Examination Centre (CIE). Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. It is recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide, and is an international passport to progression and success.
NEASC – The New England Association of Schools and Colleges
The New England Association of Schools and Colleges provides accreditation services for more than 2,000 public and private institutions from pre-kindergarten through university. NEASC consists of six commissions, each of which sets the standards for a particular segment of the educational community.
NCCT – The National Centre for School Curriculum and Textbook Development
The National Centre for School Curriculum and Textbook Development is so far the only accreditation-related agency approved by the Ministry of Education, and it is the only Chinese agency providing school accreditation in mainland China. NCCT is engaged in nation-wide study, development and assessment of school curricula, textbooks and related professional work.
YCIS Qingdao is authorised as a Testing Centre by the College Board, allowing us to offer the PSAT and SAT tests to our students interested in applying to universities in the United States or other countries including SAT scores as part of the university application process. Founded in 1900, the College Board was created to expand access to higher education. Today, the membership association is made up of over 6,000 of the world’s leading educational institutions and is dedicated to promoting excellence and equity in education.
