Welcome to Yew Chung International School of Qingdao (YCIS Qingdao).
YCIS Qingdao was the newest school to be added to the YCIS system of international schools in 2006. Yew Chung was started in 1932 and the interest in the YCIS model of education has grown steadily over the years in China. YCIS now has around 6000 students, with campuses in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Chongqing in China, and in Silicon Valley in the US.
At YCIS Qingdao, we have students and highly qualified staff from many nations around the world. Children attending YCIS Qingdao are educated in a truly international learning environment. YCIS Qingdao features unique educational elements that will truly help to shape your child into a bilingually skilled, multicultural and global-minded individual. We provide a quality education that prepares students for our ever-changing world.
YCIS’s international curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England (NCE) in Years 1 to 10, complimented by the IB Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13. Our international education implements best practices and methods from education systems from around the world. We are the only international school in Qingdao with a Co-Principal structure. The Chinese and Western Co-Principal work side by side and this creates a school culture where we instil the best elements of Western and Chinese traditions into students.
Another unique feature at YCIS is the Co-Teaching model. Through this model, we promote bilingual learning as we have an English-speaking teacher and a Chinese-speaking teacher in each ECE and Primary class. We provide a strong Chinese Language and Culture Programme, which has been developed over the last few decades. Students attending YCIS are expected to attain a high level of fluency in both English and Chinese.
At YCIS Qingdao, we offer an education committed to educating the whole person from Early Childhood through graduation. Our aim is that students who graduate from our school are prepared to be leaders and make a positive impact on the world around them. YCIS offers students the opportunity to sit International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations at the end of Year 11. Two YCIS Qingdao students have also been recognised for achieving the highest score in the world in IGCSE Chinese as a Foreign Language. We are proud of these impressive achievements by our students.
Beginning in August 2016, we also offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13. YCIS Qingdao students have been accepted by the top universities around the world. Please click on our University Guidance page for full details.
In addition to the academic programme of the school, YCIS Qingdao provides numerous opportunities for students to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports, music programmes and after-school elective programmes. YCIS is considered to be one of the leading international schools in Asia, and we encourage you to explore our website to help you understand why this is the case.
