Australian Scholar Visited YCIS QD
Last year, Dr. Stephanie Sanders-Smith, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) interviewed teachers and Co-Principals of Yew Chung to learn their teaching experience. After study, Dr. Sanders-Smith named the pedagogy “Yew Chung Approach”. She is working with colleagues at UIUC and Yew Chung to develop this conceptualisation of the Yew Chung Approach.
YCIS QD Spring Concert
On April 4th, YCIS QD Primary school concert brought the sounds of Spring to our campus. Music has always featured as a large part of Yew Chung’s life. We offer as many musical opportunities as we possibly can. This helps the children to extend their creativity and gain confidence on the stage. Last Thursday’s concert featured an all-Primary star line-up. Our two Year 6 MC’s, Ye Bin Kwon & Si Eun Choi, introduced everyone professionally. The choirs opened and closed the concert and our String players in Years 1-3 were the other large groups to perform. The other performers were solos and duets and ranged from vocal, piano, violin; even a b-boxing performance and a hip-hop dance which was a crowd favourite. Performances ranged from Year 1 right the way through to Yr. 6 pupils. The Co-Principals, Ms. Ma and Mr. O’Connor gave the vote of thanks at the close of the concert. It was a concert to remember and promises that music is alive and well at YCIS-QD.

QISN Basketball Tournament
YCIS Qingdao values a holistic education. Whilst we understand the importance of academic assessments and external exams, we also believe this needs to be balanced with other, equally important activities that help students learn and demonstrate a variety of skills. Last week, on Friday March 8 and Saturday March 9 YCIS Qingdao hosted a QISN under 19 basketball tournament. This tournament is a yearly event at YCIS, held across two venues, and we know the students enjoy coming together to compete with other schools in the Qingdao area, demonstrating their collaboration and team work skills, as well as their technical basketball expertise. It is also a fantastic opportunity to make new friends. We encourage our parents to attend and support such kind of event.
