To celebrate English playwright William Shakespeare’s life and work, each year our Secondary English Department organises Shakespeare Day. The work of Shakespeare, who was born and died on April 23, resonates with people from all cultures and backgrounds. This year, Shakespeare Day activities took place on April 19.
Students and teachers came to school dressed as their favourite Shakespearean character. Throughout the day, students learnt about Shakespeare’s life and works, gaining appreciation for the quality and volume of work he created.
Finally, the day was capped in the meeting hall on the 5th floor with performances of scenes from some of Shakespeare’s 38 plays. Secondary students were divided up by year level, with each group playing a different scene. A panel of teachers served as judges, and ultimately awarded Year 9’s rendition of Romeo and Juliet the day’s top prize.
