    • Each May, Yew Chung International School of Qingdao welcomes the greater Qingdao community to our campus for a fun-filled day of food, games, and music. The YCIS holistic approach to education emphasises co-operation between school, family, and the wider community. Family Fun Day is an expression of this philosophy, where school and community join together to build relationships and celebrate another successful school year.

May 20 was YCIS Qingdao’s annual Family Fun Day celebration. Organised by our dedicated Parent Relations Officer, Ms Courtney Leedy, the day kicked off at 11 a.m. as members of the community streamed onto campus.

Upon first entering the school grounds, families were met by a collection of community vendors selling food and crafts. A German restaurant catered the event – a crowd favourite, all afternoon families enjoyed impromptu picnics with hot dogs and sandwiches.

Meanwhile, inside the Qingdao International Community Centre (QICC), younger children enjoyed face painting and Lego stations, while Primary and Secondary students played pickup basketball games in our full-court gymnasium.

Nearby, the largest crowds of the day were gathered on our track and sports field. Two bouncy castles were set up on the north end of the field, while families elsewhere played football, cricket, tetherball, Twister, Four Square, and badminton.

The most popular activities of the day were water sports. Perfect for a May afternoon, there were water sponge relays and water balloon slingshot stations. A few students were even so brave as to toss water balloons at unsuspecting teachers!

At YCIS Qingdao, our mission is to provide our students with a world-class international education. Integral to this mission is building a strong relationship between home and school. Family Fun Day is a wonderful opportunity not only for families to enjoy an afternoon of games and great food, but also to strengthen the bond between parents, teachers and students.
