โIf you like Shakespeare, youโll like this show. If you hate Shakespeare, youโll love this show!โThe Today Show.
Friday 14thJune, saw the third annual production of the YCIS drama group Shakespeare play. This year, The Tempestwas given a contemporary, musical makeover.
โWe are such stuff as dreams are made of,โ Prospero (Tony Y7) says and indeed this was a dreamlike drama with sumptuous scenery crafted by the lower secondary art students. In a reverse of the Shakespearean tradition, the male parts were played by female actors.
Miranda (Makaylyn Y9) falls for Ferdinand (Evelyn Y8) when the family is shipwrecked in a tempestuous storm. Prospero is reunited with his traitorous sister Queen Alonso (Bella Stratton Y7) and all is forgiven. But now they are all trapped on a deserted island! Will they ever escape?
The audience was encouraged to sing-a-long and all agreed it was a magical experience.
