    • YCIS had the opportunity to participate in this year’s Qingdao based Lower Secondary Soccer Tournament, hosted by Malvern College on 28 October. We were excited that with all of the interest at the school in participating in this year’s tournament, we were able to submit two girls’ teams and a boys’ team to participate. Expectations were high for the girls’ team, as last year they came in 2nd place. This year our more experienced girls team dominated the competition, going undefeated and winning 1st place! Our second, less experienced, girls team had a great opportunity to experience very competitive play, taking 6th place. They won one a game, tied another, and lost a couple close ones (in fact they were the only team that came close to beating the other YCIS girls team!) The boys also had an exciting day, going undefeated through the morning. A tough break in tournament seeding had them play a very tough game in the first round of the play-offs. A loss here (to the eventual winner of the day WZIS) sent us to the 3 vs 4 game against QISS. It was a well contested match that not only went into extra time, but finally was decided in a shootout. After some amazing shots and saves, we were excited to walk away with 3rd place. There are lots of great life lessons students can learn through sporting opportunities, and a lot of fun to be had at the same time! Pease consider encouraging your child’s continued participation in our Athletics programme!
