    • This past weekend, Yew Chung International School of Qingdao hosted the QISN U-15 Basketball & Ping Pong Tournaments. Beginning Friday morning and continuing all the way through Saturday evening, our U-15 students (Years 7-10) competed in both basketball and ping pong matches against other international schools. These other schools came from Qingdao, Yantai, and Kunming to compete in this highly anticipated tournament. In all, 7 different international schools participated.

In Ping Pong, our boys’ teams gave an impressive performance, coming in 2ndand 3rdplace in both singles and doubles matches. The competition was intense, but they came away with a total of 4 trophies for YCIS. They once again proved that YCIS is the team to beat in U-15 Ping Pong.

In basketball the competitions were equally intense. Our boys team put up a strong fight and earned their spot in the 3rdvs. 4thmatch against some very good teams. Their final game was a fierce match-up of skills and endurance with a tightly scoring game which was often tied until the last few minutes. In the end they were defeated by only 2 points and came away with 4thplace.

Our girls team showed themselves to be top competitors in the field on the first day with only one loss. They continued this winning streak into Saturday morning which placed them in the 1stvs. 2ndgame against the undefeated team from Kunming. The Kunming team had defeated every other team by a large point margin. Despite feeling intimidated, our girls took the court with incredible determination and held the Kunming team to their lowest score of the entire tournament. It was a breathtakingly close game that ended with a heartbreaking 2-point loss in the last seconds of the game. The girls team gave an impressive team effort that earned them 2ndplace in the tournament and more importantly earned them the team sportsmanship trophy as voted on by all the other schools.

We are incredibly proud of our students’ teamwork, attitude, and efforts from the weekend competitions. They could not have shown more heart, more support for each other, or more determination to give their best effort. We congratulate each one of them on a job well done.
