    • At Yew Chung International School of Qingdao, we value the potential of each individual student and hope to continually develop the students welfare. We also feel the importance for students to be aware of their own rights and responsibilities. The student council, thus, is among examples of how we ensure voices of our students being heard.

In the past week, the elections of our 2020-2021 Primary and Secondary Student Council have been held successfully, and we cannot wait to congratulate our new student council leadership team and members!

“Our school recognizes the importance of developing leadership skills among our students. Joining the Primary Student Council is one important way students can get involved in leading efforts to improve the overall YCIS experience from the student perspective.” Said Ms Ndunduma, Primary Student Council Co-Coordinator. “Each candidate put in hard work for his or her campaign and were asked what their visions for YCIS were in the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.”

The new student council members, who are elected by their peer students, are empowered to be active and responsible citizens both in the school and in a wider community. To become a member of the Student Council, some common traits such as leadership, responsibility, empathy, self-confidence, as well as communication skills were being evaluated through each candidate’s presentation. They are expected to show the highest standard of behaviour and attitude in order to act as role models to their peers.

The new student council members will help in sharing and collecting new ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community, and will get the chance to meet with the School Leadership Team (SLT) to voice their opinions and ideas to keep the school moving forward. With the efforts that will be made by our Primary and Secondary Student Council, we hold strong beliefs that the academic year of 2020-2021 will be another amazing year!
