    • Experiencing China Programme is one of our major school events and is an important component and extension of the Chinese Study course, which is closely linked with Chinese Language, English, Humanities, and PSHE classes. It aims to let students experience local culture and explore traditional Chinese thinking, culture and history. This year’s Experiencing China trip took place from 30th October to 3rd November. The Year 7 and 8 students travelled to Guizhou and had the opportunity to see some truly wonderful sights, including natural scenery and ethnic customs. They visited the largest waterfall in China— Huangguoshu Waterfall, the Miao village, in the southeastern region of Guizhou, that has been home to the Miao people for ages, and the unique minority town—Danxia Town. They enjoyed Guizhou national songs and dance poetry—colorful Guizhou wind, and took part in unique, traditional activities such as art design, cooking, paper-making,singing and dancing. These and other exciting activities made this trip a truly memorable experience in China! The Year 9 and 10 students travelled to Xi’an. In the five days, we appreciated the Xi’an landscape, the Beilin Museum, Hua Qing Palace, Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum and other natural and cultural landscapes. We watched the historical dance drama "the Song of Everlasting Sorrow", the Qinqiang opera, a shadow puppet show and other wonderful performances. Student activities included learning Kungfu, writing Chinese calligraphy, and making a Terracotta Warrior model. Students tasted Xi’an delicacies, like gourd-shaped stuffed chicken, steamed buns stuffed with tender lamb and other delicious local food. Importantly, students worked, played, behaved and communicated well together to contribute to an enjoyable trip.

The Experiencing China trips were fantastic adventures that our students will never forget!
